An engine's ability to generate power and efficiency is dependent on its ability to move air.

A restrictive exhaust robs power from an otherwise efficient engine.  Additionally the Long Tube header increases power by exhaust scavenging As exhaust gases rush through a long tube, they create a low-pressure zone (vacuum) behind them. This suction helps pull the exhaust gases out of the engine while creating a draft that draws fresh air and fuel into the cylinder during the valve overlap period.  This is why nearly all race cars use these types of manifolds.
